Once treatment decisions have been made, orders have been issued and all protocol parameters have been met, there remains the task of preparing hazardous drug doses by pharmacy and/or nursing staff members. Previously, this task was undertaken in manual fashion, following specific guidelines to ensure patient and staff safety. Despite the staff’s best efforts, errors and accidental exposures have persisted.

 

CytoCare is a robotic solution that automates the complex and dangerous tasks associate with compounding intravenous chemotherapy admixtures.

It integrates seamlessly to the entire OMM package and helps “close the loop” with respect to safety. CytoCare automatically receives orders generated in the OMM system and begins processing them when approved by a pharmacist. Patients are protected by state-of-the-art safety features such as computerized product recognition, weight-based checks of all measurements and bar code driven labeling systems.

 

Sterility is maintained due to the self-contained ISO 5 compounding chamber and lack of human interaction during compounding.
Staff members are protected from accidental exposure by limiting interaction with hazardous drugs to only loading and unloading items into/from the robot. The remainder of the compounding process is carried out in an enclosed chamber that is designed to contain contaminants.
